Frozen Shoulder Treatment
at Skin & Bones
Adhesive capsulitis treatment at our Lancashire Clinic
Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) is caused by temporary scarring of the shoulder joint capsule. It is a very painful condition which can occur spontaneously but may also be triggered by trauma to the region. The shoulder quickly becomes stiff and painful, with symptoms lasting several years in some cases.
How do we perform frozen shoulder treatment?
Hydrodistention is a procedure which improves recovery time for frozen shoulders and something we do extensively at Skin and Bones.
You will lie down on a bed with your shoulder exposed and cleaned. A diagnostic ultrasound scan is performed initially to exclude any rotator cuff tendon injury.
A needle is guided into the shoulder joint using ultrasound to improve accuracy. A combination of steroid, anaesthetic and saline is injected to expand the space and break down the scar tissue. The procedure may be uncomfortable during this expansion, but the anaesthetic and steroid will work to reduce the pain.
